Pleasure & Pain - How Are They Related?

I have previously shared with you how taking an ice bath can be related to BDSM. For some people, the experience of pain is one of freedom, pleasure, and ecstasy, how come it can be so different?

Since my pain and pleasure module is coming up, today I would like to explore this topic further. I will start with asking you to reflect;

What are the things that you like but other people find painful? Or what do you find painful that some people enjoy a lot?

Here are some examples:

  • Ice cold water

  • A very hot Sauna

  • Spicy food

  • A deep tissue massage

  • Heavy lifting or hard workout

  • Spanking

Here is the good news:

  • We can rewire our brain and our nervous system to release old fear and develop new levels of comfort.

  • We can learn how to find pleasure in things we previously feared!

So how do you safely expand your comfort zone? Here are my tips:

  • Start exploring something because YOU want to, not because someone else is convincing you.

  • Start really slow. Eat a tiny bit of chili, stick one foot in the cold water, ask for one spank on your butt cheek.

  • Breath and focus on staying present in the sensation, if you notice that you disassociate or wander away from the experience, slow it down or stop.

  • Notice any pleasure in the experience, such as feeling light in the chest, tingling sensations in the body, or an expanded presence.
